Program Overview

This undergraduate exchange program is established for students from overseas partner institutions that have entered into a formal Academic Exchange Agreement with Mokpo National University (MNU). Under this program, nominated students are invited to pursue academic studies at MNU for one or two semesters, with the transfer of earned credits to their respective home institutions guaranteed upon completion.

Key Features

Academic Administration
  • Course Selection: Students can choose from a variety of major and liberal arts courses. Please note that most classes are conducted in Korean.
  • A selection of courses is offered in English. Furthermore, in most classes attended by international students, a real-time AI translation system provides subtitles in the student’s native language to facilitate learning.
  • Students may enroll in up to 18 credits per semester. Credits earned during the program are eligible for transfer to the student’s home university.
  • The academic experience gained during the exchange period can serve as scaffolding for future transfer into undergraduate programs or admission to graduate school.

Cultural Experience &
Language Exchange Programs
  • Students can experience Korean society and culture firsthand through various activities such as Hanbok trials, traditional cooking classes, and excursions to local landmarks.
  • Through Language Exchange and Global Peer-Mentoring programs with local students, participants can practice real-life Korean and enhance their multicultural sensitivity.
Global Network
Expansion
  • Currently, Mokpo National University hosts exchange students from various Asian countries, including Japan, Vietnam, and China. Starting in 2026, we plan to expand our recruitment to include students from Europe and other regions.
  • This expansion will allow students to serve as a bridge in an international network connecting Asia and Europe.
Region-Based Experience
  • Depending on their major, students can participate in field studies and volunteer activities linked to the Jeollanam-do community to experience the characteristics of Korean local culture, industry, and community.
  • These activities are designed to foster Global Citizenship and strengthen multicultural competencies for the future.

Selection Criteria

Eligibility Requirements
  • Institutional Nomination: Applicants must be officially nominated by an overseas partner institution that maintains a valid Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or Student Exchange Agreement (SEA) with Mokpo National University (MNU).
  • Maintenance of Enrollment: Candidates are required to maintain active enrollment status at their home institution throughout the entire duration of the exchange program. (Leave of absence is strictly prohibited).
  • Language Proficiency Requirements: Language requirements may vary by country of origin and academic major. Certain departments may restrict eligibility to applicants holding a valid TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) score.
Program Duration and Academic Calendar
  • Academic Semesters: The program is administered twice per academic year: the Spring Semester (commencing in March) and the Fall Semester (commencing in September).
  • Period of Study: Students may elect to study for either a single semester (4 months) or two consecutive semesters (8 months).
